Cheskers

Cheskers

This hybrid chess-checkers game was invented in the mid-20th century. It uses a standard 8x8 board. Each player has 8 checkers, 2 kings, 1 bishop, and 1 camel (analogous to a knight in chess). Pieces move only on dark squares. The camel moves 3 squares in one direction and 1 in another, i.e., one square further than a knight in chess. The bishop's move remains unchanged.

Rule nuances

Checkers move only forward. They can capture backward. The king moves like a checker but not only forward, but also backward. (Analogous to a king in English checkers). Checkers and kings capture by jumping over opponent's checkers and pieces. If a checker or king can capture, capture is mandatory. Moreover, if there's a choice of what to capture with - a checker or a piece (camel or bishop), the player can choose any option. Instead of becoming a king, checkers can promote to any piece, including a king. The goal of the game is to destroy all opponent's kings or deprive the opponent of the ability to move.
